The Wirral Play Development Centre is the hub of the Wirral Play Council.

In 1980, the original Play Development Centre opened in shop premises on St. Anne Street, Birkenhead, with grant aid received through the Inner Area (Community Chest) Programme.

In 1983, again with help through the Community Chest, the Wirral Play Council moved to 255 Beckwith Street, Birkenhead (the old Birkenhead General Hospital).  This building proved to be an ideal home for the Play Council for the next ten years.

In 1993, we moved to our current premises, the old Transport & General Workers' Union building in Berner Street, Birkenhead. As well as the main offices, the building now houses an additional needs centre, arts & crafts shop, play training room, scrounge room, and a play equipment hire service.

Its distinctive extension was completed in 1998 and the building was repainted in 2008, and is now a playful bright green.
