19.08.09 Wirral 'Play In The Peninsula' Launch

Wirral Borough Council's Youth and Play Service launched the Big Lottery children's play programme, 'Play In The Peninsula', today, in Birkenhead Park.  This included four rebranded adventure nature play areas, Play For All inclusion project and two projects delivered by Wirral Play Council; Community Play Rangers, and PlayPoint.

Play Champion, Councillor Chris Meaden, introduced the event - having promoted it on Radio Merseyside earlier in the day - then the Mayor & Mayoress of Wirral conducted the official opening.  This was followed by presentations from Gemma Rhodes (Community Play Rangers), Ros Barrie (PlayPoint), and Steve Chan 'Acting Head Youth and Play Service), on how the various programmes will provide access to more free play opportunities for children throughout Wirral.

Everyone was then invited to have a picnic on the grass followed by games and activities throughout the afternoon.  The favourite family activity was den building followed by the risky play 'slacklines'.
