24.12.05 Farewell, Jen

Jen Steventon leaves the PlaySpaces project today to pursue a career in teaching in the New year.  All the best from the staff at the Play Council.


19.12.05 Christmas Party

Thanks to all the staff from all the departments that attended the Christmas party last night and made it such a success.  The party went on into the night and everyone let their hair down.
Also, a big thank you to The Village Hotel in Bromborough for putting up with us.


16.12.05 Retirement News

Eileen Sheppard (Community Liaison Officer for West Wirral) retired today after working for the Local Authority for over thirty years.  Eileen has been on the Executive Committee of Wirral Play Council since its start back in 1974.
We wish her all the best.


09.12.05 Farewell, Gemma

Today we say goodbye (again) to Gemma Paddock, who starts a new job on Monday after helping us out in the shop during the summer.  We wish Gemma the best of luck in her new administrative post at Liverpool Museum.


30.11.05 Creative Christmas Coffee Cracker

Staff at Wirral Play Council held a Christmas arts & crafts fundraising workshop today and raised over £100.00 for the centre.  Thank you to everyone for attending and thanks go also to the staff and committee members for giving up their time and making lots of 'exceedingly nice cakes' for the event.


24.10.05 Holiday Playscheme

The Special Needs' Group provided a half-term holiday scheme for 180 children this week.  Planned events included; a Hallowe'en party and a trip to the bowling alley.  The staff also ran a prize draw and raised £194.00 for the centre.


22.10.05 Staff Changes

We say goodbye to Sue Halpen, today.  Sue has been working for PlaySpaces for thirteen months.  She leaves us to go into teaching.  Jen Steventon joins the team as a temporary playworker.


21.10.05 Charter of Participation Event

Wirral Play Council facilitated practical workshops at the Charter of Participation Event held at the new visitors' centre in Birkenhead Park.  Using arts & crafts, discussion, and a video booth, staff engaged with local school children to find out their views on participation.


29.09.05 Retirement News

Today, Peter Jenkinson (Deputy Head of Youth & Community Service) attended a farewell celebration held in his honour at Gautby Road Play & Community Centre.
Peter has been involved in the play sector as long as Wirral Play Council.  The attendees included friends and colleagues from various Local Authority departments and play centres.
We wish him all the very best.


24.09.05 Farewell, Matt

We say goodbye to Matt Duffy, today.  Matt has been part of the PlaySpaces team for the last year.  He leaves us to go to the London College of Music.


26.08.05 Summer Schemes Ended

This is the last day of this year's summer playschemes.  A big thank you to all the staff for all their hard work during the last five weeks.


25.08.05 PlaySpaces Radio Interview

Today, Paddy Mulligan (Outreach Project Co-ordinator) was interviewed on 7 Waves Community Radio 87.7 FM on the lunchtime 'Around and About' programme.  The interviewer was Cazz Lewis and the six minute interview covered Outreach Play provision and the PlaySpaces project.

05.08.05 Playday 2005

Wirral Play Council in conjunction with Wirral Borough Council and over four hundred and fifty children celebrated, 'Playday 2005: Fit for Play?' at Royden Park, Frankby.  The event was opened by the Mayor of Wirral.


05.08.05 Summer Playworker Party

Wirral Play Council's annual summer party for all their playworkers was held today at Birkenhead Rugby Football Club.  Everyone had a great time and DJ Carl once again spun the discs.


26.07.05 Website Re-design Uploaded

The new Wirral Play Council website launches today.  The re-designed site will have several new sections added to it over the next few months.


25.07.05 Staff Welcome

Hello to Gemma Paddock, who returns today as our temporary shop / resource worker.


25.07.05 Special Needs Summer Scheme

Wirral Play Council's Special Needs group will be providing a summer scheme for up to 650 children with a wide range of disabilities over the next four weeks.  Planned events include; trips to Chester Zoo, the aquarium, the cinema, and Barnston Farm, as well as a sports day to be held in Royden Park on the 3rd & 4th August.


25.07.05 Summer Playschemes

Summer is here again.  Five weeks of play activities, for children aged 5-14 years, start today and continue until 26th August.

04.07.05 Berlin Play Conference

Members of Wirral Play Council attended the 16th International Play Association conference in Berlin.  The conference ran from the 18th to the 22nd July.

18.05.05 Readers Rally to Centre

Wirral Play Council has been inundated with help and support from the people and businesses of Wirral after our break-in was highlighted by the local press.

17.05.05 Alarm System Donation

A big thank you to Direct Alarm Systems of Eastham, who have kindly offered to provide and install a new intruder alarm system in the building.  Managing Director, Peter Lewis, read of our plight in the local press and offered us the latest alarm system as a charitable donation.


08.05.05 Play Council Building Ransacked

Thieves broke into the Wirral Play Development Centre causing thousands of pounds of damage to the offices and Special Needs areas.

04.04.05 Third Year Funding for PlaySpaces Project

Wirral Play Council's, PlaySpaces project, has again been successful in obtaining continuation funding from the Children's Society and On Track.

04.04.05 Final Year for Playwork+ Project

Playwork+ receives its final years' funding.  After five successful years the project is to come to its natural end next March.

21.03.05 Easter Holiday Playscheme

Starting 21st March until 1st April, Wirral Play Council will be running a closed access playscheme for children, aged 5-14 years, with Special Needs.


27.02.05 Website Re-design Begins

Work began on the new Wirral Play Council website.  The re-design will add new sections, such as; play theory, and events.  The relaunch is set for July.


23.02.05 Wirral Play Council A.G.M.

Annual General Meeting held at the Wirral Play Development Centre.
